Gerringer
theatre director and educator
Madison directs plays that are surreal and funny and dark and often music-filled. She strives to make theatre for everyone, not just for people who also make theatre. She believes that education and community engagement are at the heart of pushing the theatre industry in a more inclusive direction.
Madison is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. She studied theatre at Idyllwild Arts Academy with a concentration in musical theatre. She then went on to receive a BA in Theatre Education from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. After her undergraduate studies, she returned to the Bay to work as a freelance teaching artist. She became the Director of Education at Town Hall Theatre in Lafayette in 2017. During her time there she also served as a teaching artist and advisory board member for the Quinan St. Project and as a freelance teaching artist for multiple Bay Area organizations. Madison was also a founding member of Theatre Education Leaders Bay Area (TEL-Bay), an organization that led professional development and facilitated teaching artist hiring events across the bay.
After her time at Town Hall ended (and after the beginning of a global pandemic) Madison moved to London to receive her MA in Directing and has served as an assistant to many prominent directors in the UK. She remains in London and is available for freelance work in directing, assisting, teaching and facilitating. She recently had her playwright and professional London directing debut with Odd Jobs at The Hope Theatre in Islington.
